About Psychotherapy with Anna Bailey

This page explains a little about me, what therapy can offer, how I work, and my counselling practice in Sheffield and online.

Anna Bailey, counsellor and psychotherapist

About Me

I'm Anna Bailey, a counsellor and psychotherapist based in Sheffield. I hold a Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy from Leeds Beckett University. I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP 420381) and abide by the BACP Ethical Framework.

I studied Catholic Theology at undergraduate and postgraduate level and hold a masters degree in Marriage and Family.

Before training as a therapist, I worked as a Programme Manager for a Catholic education-resources company. Earlier roles in youth ministry, education, pastoral care and communications in faith-based settings shaped my interest in how people make meaning, carry pain and find hope. Over time, that work led me to train as a therapist.

Today, I offer a warm, attentive and professional space for people seeking healing, growth and greater freedom in their lives.

When I am not seeing clients, you will often find me gardening, reading with a cup of Yorkshire Tea, or cooking for family and friends.

About Therapy

Therapy means different things to different people. You might come because you are struggling with something that is affecting your feelings, thoughts, relationships, work or health. You might be navigating a time of loss, change or big decisions. You might simply want a confidential space to be heard, without judgement, pressure or any agenda.

Therapy offers dedicated time and a safe, confidential, non-judgemental relationship in which to explore what is on your mind or heart, at your pace. It can help you make sense of the past, find your footing in the present, and consider what may help you move forward.

How I can help

Some of the things we might explore together

People come to therapy for many reasons. You do not need a single clear problem to begin. These are some of the things we might explore together.

  • Anxiety and low mood

When worry, sadness or feeling flat are taking up too much space.

  • Trauma and difficult experiences

A careful space to process painful experiences at a pace that feels safe for you.

  • Grief and loss

Space to carry, and slowly make sense of, what or who you have lost.

  • Life transitions and change

Support through endings, beginnings and the in-between.

  • Stress and burnout

Exploring patterns of thought and behaviour when you are running on empty and cannot keep going as you are.

  • Relationships

Making sense of patterns, ruptures and the way you relate to others.

  • Identity

Room to explore questions around identity, meaning, values or faith.

  • Feeling stuck

When life feels repetitive or blocked and you want more freedom and choice.

About My Approach

The therapeutic relationship is central to my work. I aim to offer a space that is compassionate, non-judgemental, honest and attentive, where you can be met as you are.

I trained as an integrative psychotherapist, which means I draw on more than one therapeutic tradition rather than using a one-size-fits-all model. I tailor the work to each client's needs, hopes and preferences.

Relational

My work is influenced by relational and person-centred approaches. Creating a place of safety, trust and genuine connection can develop at a pace that feels right for you.

Psychodynamic

Psychodynamic therapy informs my practice by exploring how past experiences, relationships, and unconscious patterns have shaped your present life.

Trauma-informed foundations

My practice is trauma-informed, recognising how experiences of trauma can shape the mind, body and relationships.

Body patterns and practical tools

I draw on somatic insights and the role of the body, alongside ideas from Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) when practical tools may be helpful.

Creative approaches

I am inspired by Art Therapy and other creative approaches, which can offer different ways to explore experiences when words are difficult.

Neuro-affirmative practice

I work collaboratively and adapt therapy around your strengths, needs and goals, respecting different ways of thinking, feeling and communicating.

Faith, spirituality and meaning

My Catholic faith informs the compassion, dignity, hope and respect I bring to therapy. Faith or spirituality may be a source of strength or struggle, and there is space to explore it if you wish.

A welcome for every background

People of all faiths, beliefs and backgrounds are welcome. You are never expected to share my faith; therapy remains centred on you, your experiences and what matters to you.
